這門課定位為碩士層級的第一門研究法課程，偏重量化研究，以訓練思考方法為主，輔以各種研究技能的學習。具體而言，本課程預期教導學生：
(1)培養基本的研究態度與能力：
	培養「科學性」思考的能力與習慣
	建立蒐集、評論、應用文獻的技能
	建立發展研究問題與計畫的基本技能
(2)建立量化研究技能：
	瞭解量化研究的基本理念與操作方法
	瞭解各種量化研究設計的使用方法、適用情況與限制
