（一）本課程旨在簡介一般常用的英語教育研究方法（To introduce general methods for English education research）。（二）將一般教育研究方法與英語教學研究領域相結合,使學生從事研究時知所取捨（To combine the research methods used in education research and English teaching for students to choose, apply and practice）。（三）培養學生獨當一面從事英語教學研究的知識與能力（To develop students' knowledge and skills in conducting English education research）。本課程主要探討下列課題: 教學大綱鳥瞰(Syllabus Preview); 何謂教育研究（What is education research）？何謂英語教育研究（What is English education research）？研究計畫的內容與撰寫（Major Components of a Research Project Proposal）; 研究問題、研究工具與文獻探討（Research Questions/Hypotheses and Literature Review）;研究法簡介(I):歷史法與調查法（Intro to Res Methods (I): The Historical Method and the Survey Method）;研究法簡介(II):觀察法與個案法（Intro to Res Methods (II): The Observational Method and The Case Study Method）;研究法簡介(III):內容分析法與人種誌法（Intro to Res Methods (III): The Content Analysis Method and The Ethnographic Methods）;研究法簡介(IV):相關法與事後回溯法（Intro to Res Methods (IV): The Correlation Method and The Ex Post Facto Method）;研究法簡介(V):實驗研究設計（Intro to Res Methods (V): The Experimental Design）;
研究法簡介(VI):準實驗研究設計（Intro to Res Methods (VI): The Quasi-Experimental Design）;研究法簡介(VII):混合法、評鑑研究法、行動研究法（Intro to Res Methods(VII): The Mixed-Method, Evaluative Method, and Action Research Method）;有聲思考法與博多稿分析（The Think-Aloud Method and Protocol Analysis）;田野調查與深度訪談法（The Field Method and In-Depth Interview）;質的資料分析（Qualitative Data-Analysis）;量的資料分析(I):敘述統計（Quantitative Data-Analysis (I): Descriptive Statistics）;量的資料分析(II):推論統計（Quantitative Data-Analysis (II): Inferential Statistics）;如何報告撰寫與評鑑（Paper Writing and Evaluation）等議題。
